CINCO DE MAYO SATURDAY

Saturday is Cinco de Mayo, or Drinko de Mayo as it is known throughout much of Turtle Bay.

But it is a HUGE sports day as well.  Come by at 12pm, when we will be featuring the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.  We pair that up with the NHL Playoffs at 12:30pm, when our New York Rangers visit the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of their series.  Kentucky Derby coverage goes from 5pm-7pm.  And then we have the big LA Galaxy vs. New York Red Bulls match at 8pm.

David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane are all expected to feature when the LA Galaxy host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday at 8pm.

There are drink specials throughout the day.  We will be serving Mint Juleps during the Kentucky Derby.  Makers Mark will be supporting our Kentucky Derby showing, with brand models providing samples and giveaways.

We will also be offering Red StagBull Bombs for $5, which is a shot of Red Stag dropped into a glass of Red Bull.  In fact, during the Galaxy vs. Red Bulls match, if you “check in” with us on various forms of Social Media, we will even buy your second round of Red Stag shots as well (limited to 1st 30 shots)!  In addition, we have Happy Hour Specials and 50-Cent Wings throughout the weekend.

Manchester United needs some help if it is going to win the EPL race after its loss to Manchester City last Monday. Come see both teams in action on Sunday morning.

MANCHESTER SUNDAY

Manchester City’s victory over Manchester United on Monday has created drama in the final two weeks of the EPL season.  Tied on points, but ahead on goal differential, Manchester City essentially has a 1 point lead over their cross town rivals for the league title.  City Manager Roberto Mancini has publicly played down City’s chances for retaining the lead, citing a more difficult schedule than United.  He must be looking at the upcoming match at Newcastle United, where the Magpies were certainly impressive in their 2-0 win at Chelsea midweek.

We are open at 8:30am this Sunday for Newcastle vs. Manchester City.  We will then show Manchester United vs. Swansea at 11am.  Given the see-saw nature between the Manchester rivalry this season, don’t be surprised if there are still a few changes before the final standings.  In the afternoon, we will show the Milan Derby between Inter Milan and AC Milan at 2:30pm.

We are the best soccer bar in New York City.  Come by for your matches, and enjoy Happy Hour Specials and 50-cent wings all day.  Here is our full soccer schedule for the weekend:

Saturday 5/5

  • 12:00pm – Liverpool vs. Chelsea – FA Cup Final
  • 4:30pm – Seattle Sounders vs. Philadelphia Union – MLS
  • 8:00pm – Los Angeles Galaxy vs. New York Red Bulls – MLS

Sunday 5/6

  • 8:30am – Newcastle United vs. Manchester City – EPL
  • 11:00am – Manchester United vs. Swansea City – EPL
  • 2:30pm – Inter Milan vs. AC Milan – Serie A

***********

This is how Joshua Ledet sings every note. At least a 10.

Since Colton Dixon was unceremoniously voted off the show, I’ve been fairly accurate with my American Idol prediction.  Elise Testone has finally been voted off.  And this past week, the comeback story of Hollie Cavanagh overcame the country vote supporting Skylar Laine.

To me, Skylar’s elimination does not bode well for Joshua Ledet’s chances.  In terms of going for broke, Skylar was the female counterpart of Joshua.  Both have to reach their “10″ voice at some point of their performance, and it seems to them, the earlier they reach it the better because they are going to try to push for “15″ by the end of the song.  This strategy has worked well in gaining judges support for Joshua, as he seems to get standing ovations from them night.

But I wonder if the vocal fireworks are starting to get tiresome for the voters.  You know what you are going to get from a Joshua Ledet performance.  If it is high tempo, he will come out with a lot of energy, give a lot of rhythmic breaths, hit the first chorus in a big way, and hit the final chorus with a ton of runs.  If it is a ballad, he will come out with plausible emotional sincerity, sing the first chorus in a big way, then hit the final chorus with a ton of runs.  Get it?  Not much different.  And as much as Phillip Phillips is criticized for coasting over the last few weeks, his song choices are somewhat obscure or keep you interested, such as when you are seeing if he could hit the falsettos in “Time of the Season” by the Zombies (not really).

My power rankings (based on who I think will win the whole thing):

  1. Phillip Phillips
  2. Jessica Sanchez
  3. Joshua Ledet
  4. Hollie Cavanagh
