Sports of the Weekend: Super Bowl and 40-cent Wings
Posted by Lawrence on Feb 06, 2010Ok, we love soccer. We are proud fans of US Soccer, and will be rooting intently for Landon Donovan and Tim Howard as Everton takes on Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby. We will be supporting Jozy Altidore as Hull City takes on Manchester City. Hell, we’re hoping Stuart Holden makes the bench as Bolton takes on Fulham (too bad, Clint Dempsey is out for the game).
But while this weekend features great futbol matches, isn’t it really about football (unless you get engrossed by the Jersey Shore marathon on MTV). Colts are the Super Bowl favorites, but injuries to Reggie Wayne and Dwight Freeney have weakened the team. Specifically, I can’t see how Freeney plays effectively in this game, having suffered from a torn right ankle ligament injury myself. The first few days you are mostly immobile, then you slowly gain forward running/walking capabilities back. But the ability to cut side by side was limited until about a month later, and the foot felt sore for many months after that. Now Freeney is in better shape and has better medical care than me, so I think he will play. I just don’t think he will be a major threat to Brees’ timing, and with that, I think New Orleans has a better chance than the general consensus believes.
So what are we doing for the Super Bowl? For one thing, you get to see Joe P and Judson’s pretty faces (Judson below) behind the bar. Second, Super Bowl Squares are available. Third, how about 40 cent wings (min. 10 per order, in-dining only)? Some comments on Yelp.com claim that we have the best wings in NYC. Stop by and try our 8 flavors: BBQ, Buffalo, Chipotle, Curry, Garlic Parmesan, Honey Mustard, Sriracha and Teriyaki.
